Topic 1:CellsToday I researched deeper and chose to find out more on the Neutrophil white blood cell, or polymorphonuclear (PMN). If a microbial infection occurs, the PMN cells will normally be the first defense against the fungi or bacteria. They are active in phagocytosing bacteria and the result of their deaths and activity is the pus coming out of the wound.
Their cytoplasm may seem transparent because of the fine, faintly pink granules. They contain multiple nuclei, hence their name. They are found in 54-62% of a human adult's total white blood cell system, and can live for 6 hours-few days.
